A public art + architecture project to celebrate the diversity of a city's real people and places through postcards.
|
The photographers for Greetings From MY Boston are apprentices in Citizen Schools' 8th Grade Academy and students from the Fourth Church Music + Art Program in South Boston. These printed cards are selections from photo essays the youth made of their own neighborhoods during 2004 + 2005. Photographer + "Citizen Teacher" Jamara Wakefield guided the Citizen Schools apprentices in their photography. Brendan Ferriter assisted.
Proceeds from the sale of the postcards will support youth towards college programs in archtitecture + design.
Begun in 2004, Greetings From Boston is a public art project intended to capture the real faces of Boston's people and places - a series of 100 postcard designs that explore the evolving city.
Project Directors Gretchen Schneider + Erika Zekos are dedicated to projects in public art, education + architecture. Their work together explores themes of the city + its communities + uses humble materials in unconventional ways or in unexpected places to invite open ended discussions about the urban environment. Zekos practices architecture + teaches design workshops with K-12 students in Western Massachusetts while Schneider divides her time directing the architecture studios at Smith College + working in New York City.
